Velocity Micro is a US-based company that specializes in high-performance computers, gaming systems, desktop and notebook computers, home-theater media centers, and other electronics in addition to ereaders and tablets.
The Cruz Tablet comes with a capacitive touchscreen, the Kindle e-reading app, Android 2. It is one of the most inexpensive Android tablets on the market as it looks to be phased out for the newer models.
Cruz Reader Reviews ». Powered by Google's Android 2. This is a great feature and its baby brother the Velocity Micro Cruz Reader only does 90 degree rotation. You can further enhance the memory via the 4 GB SD card that comes bundled with the device. Speaking of bundled features you also get a nylon carrying case and a stand for the tablet to sit on. There is room on the stand for the power adapter to be plugged in, so you can watch videos, or use it as a digital photo frame while not having to exclusively rely on the 6 hour battery life.
The stand also is weighted, so it is not flimsy plastic like the stand that is bundled with the Pandigital Novel. The Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet also supports more audio and video codecs then its previous models. FPS on video can be slightly jerkey. Overall Review: Don't buy this if you want performance or even a good touch screen.
Buy it if you want a study device that is seriously portable and runs Android stuff. If you have a temper, beware! For those who have one, try running your thumb edge up the side of the screen when reading - response is much better. Pros: Cheaper if you look up Cruise or Cruse Reader. If you are patient with a slow Android interface and minimal functionality "It isn't a kid toy", it will get you by with email, internet, PDF and Reader functionality "Music and Movies too".
If you are looking for a laptop, don't buy this! This is a cell phone application on a bigger screen. This was a good test to know if a tablet would be usable for my "away from the computer needs". I could take it or leave it - but reading during dead time works very good!
And you can play music while you read. The battery lasts much longer than my laptops and the size is very very transportable. Make sure they are not old dope smokers No heart attacks here!! Cons: When watching 12fps video, you must wait until the end to quit, or you can run your finger line to the end and it will quit on its own. You can not just stop a movie!
Volume isn't great but with head phones - Plenty. It will crash aps from time to time during install - the compatibility test I suppose. If you see the internet on a cell, this is what you get here too! It's hard to click on the little links using a cell phone.
At least this has a zoom and calibrate function for clicking. My time seems to have issues when I turn off the tablet and turn it back on.
May just be an Android bug. Overall Review: Links good with wireless g and n. You probably wouldn't let the kids play with your phone. This is just a big screen version with phone apps No phone connectivity though. Click response alone takes a second to register. If you are a speed freak, don't buy this. IF YOU are a techie with the need for constant Facebook, stock data or Email needs with bad eyes, well then here you go!! If you clean the screen after sweeping and pushing and getting your finger prints all over it, then it is crisp and clear.
